Overview

A Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization (SACCO) is simply an enterprise belonging to the people who invest their shares into it. Members control it, and its gains are distributed to the members in proportion to the shares. Membership is voluntary.

Cooperatives (or Credit Unions as they are sometimes called) throughout the world are increasingly being under pressure to provide quick and improved service to their mass members. Faced with the challenge of reduced profit margins, achieving greater self sustainability, and high member expectations, Cooperatives have been forced to diversify their services and increase efficiency. Besides innovating new products, SACCOs are required to meet the continuously increasing member credit demands while also tracking the credit risk resulting from the dynamic market, and maintaining the complex relationships between organizations and members.
